Seven people from a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district, on Tuesday, climbed a water tank with flammable material to protest against the severe fly problem in the area due to the filth from a poultry farm.
The Sangwan Poultry Farm, which started production in 2017 after being established in Kuiya Gram Sabha, has led to a sharp increase in the number of flies, causing significant disruption in the daily lives of villagers.
People are forced to eat, drink, bathe, and even sleep under mosquito nets due to the high number of flies, according to the villagers.
The issue has been so severe that it has even affected the marriage prospects of young individuals in the area, as per the residents of the village.
The villagers also said that some women had left their in-laws’ homes due to the fly problem, and relatives had stopped visiting.
“People had appealed to the administration several times in the past but nothing happened,” one of the villagers said.
In response to the villagers’ recent protest, the administration and police department swiftly arrived at the scene.
After hours of negotiation, the villagers were safely brought down from the water tank. The administration has promised to address the villagers’ concerns and resolve the issue of flies.
